Flashback Friday- Ladies Day Goodies

Hello! I am back again with another Flashback Friday, and I'm so glad you stopped in to visit!  I really need to get back to regular postings on Fridays.  It encourages me to use my older goodies to create something new, and occasionally even makes a dent in my mountain of paper!

I was so happy on Monday that the temperatures were finally above freezing and all of the snow was melting away.  We even had rain on Tuesday to wash all of the dirty grimy stuff off of the roads!  But apparently winter is not quite ready to give up yet because I woke up Wednesday morning to a school cancellation because we were expecting rain turning to sleet turning to snow.  I was really hoping the weather people were wrong and I would have a day off without all of the nasty weather.  No Such Luck!  It was raining when I woke up and by 10 it had already started to shower little pellets of ice.  By the time DH left for work that evening, we had over 6 inches of snow on the ground... Yuck!

On a more positive note, the snow day did give me a chance to work on some things for an upcoming fundraiser I am participating in at our school.  Two of our teachers are raising money to attend a training on autism and are hosting a Ladies Day Out.  Lots of different vendors, including me, and some of our students made things to sell in their booth.  I've never participated in an event like this and am not quite sure what might possibly sell besides the wonderful Stampin' UP items from the catalog.  I made a lot of cards with the thought that if they don't sell I can still use them, and I also made a few little Easter goodies.  I will also have a fun little 'make and take' that I will share with you next week.

Today's creation is a little treat holder.  I found the cutest mini Uno and Apples to Apples games at Wal-Mart in the Easter section, and I made little folders to pretty them up a little.

The folder measures 2 1/2 x 2 1/2, so you can 

have some idea of how little the card sets are!

My base is 2 1/2 x 5 1/2.  I scored the base at 2 1/2 and 3.  Then I used some retired DSP and added the cute little bunny from Tags So Much!  Hopefully, some other people will think these are as cute as I do!

Flashback Friday- Hoping for Spring

Hello! I can not tell you how excited I am to be sharing a Flashback card with you!  I have not been feeling very creative or motivated lately, but today's card was one that kind of came together on it's own and I'm feeling hopeful that my muse hasn't completely left me!

Springtime Vintage might be one of my all time favorite papers.  It reminds me of fabric and I love the delicate floral patterns. Plus it has 'spring' in the name-just what I need right now! 

My card is very simple, but I loved the way the papers came together to remind me of a quilt.  So naturally they got 'quilted' with the fancy fan embossing folder.  There ended up being a few more retired items on here than originally planned and that is always a good thing in my book!

This week has been cold once again, and I'm calling this 'the winter that came late and stayed...forever'.  Please, please, March, come in like a lamb!!!!!  I guess no matter what the weather decides to do, I will still be here and I hope you'll come back to visit me, and if you can bring some sunshine and warmer temperatures with you, I would greatly appreciate it!

Lamps and Mushrooms

What?! Lamps and Mushrooms????  If you are confused or a little intrigued, it's OK.  Apparently, my muse thought it would be funny to mess with me and confuse my kids.

My card started out with a really cute mushroom stamp that was part of a set gifted to me by Audrey.  I thought the daisy paper from Floral District (ret) would be a fun paper to pair with the stamp.  So I set out to make my card.  I had the orange and yellow fungi stamped on whisper white cs and punched them out to put on the daisy paper.  It needed a little more 'ooomph' to make them stand out so I cut another strip of daisy paper, added a strip of daffodil delight, and placed the mushrooms on there.  When I finished the cards the mushrooms looked a little blah, so I added orange and yellow glitter glue.  As they were off to the side drying, DD #2 asked why I put lamps on a birthday card.  DD#1 added that it would be cute to add "Shine bright on your birthday."  Umm... They're MUSHROOMS! oooohhh... "Happy birthday to a 'fungi'?"  (at this point I did laugh because it occurred to me that they were every bit as creatively warped as their mother, but still!)

So now I have a lamp/mushroom card and while I think it's kinda cute and sparkly, I have no clue what to put inside.  Thoughts??

 

Unfortunately, this is not the only mishap my muse created this week.  There was also a single layer birthday card that looked amazing in my head that was an absolute disaster on paper-still not sure if it can be saved or if it's destined for the trash.  I guess that is what happens when I don't exercise my brain enough; it rebels.  The extremely cold and nasty weather is not helping much either.  I am so ready for spring that I might just jack up the thermostat and slip on my flip flops anyway!

At any rate, I did make a few things and that is always good, even if it doesn't turn out well.  A bad day creating is still much better than a good day doing housework (or at least that's what I've heard. I've never really had a good day doing housework!).

A super simple card

Hello! I am so glad you stopped by to visit!  Today, I am sharing a card I made on Valentines Day.  It was cold, windy, and a little snowy, which seems to be the weather that puts me in the mood for creating.  Not much else to do, right?

This just might be the most basic card I have ever made!  I was trying to come up with ideas for birthday cards and was going through the new to me things that were still sitting on my table waiting to be used.  I bought the Happy Heart embossing folder thinking it would be so cute for Valentines.  Needless to say, I did not make Valentines...  It is always so strange to me that I will set out to make one thing and my supplies tend to pull me in a completely different direction.  I also need some Anniversary cards and thought the hearts would be pretty for the background.  I embossed and sanded some primrose petals core'dinations paper (retired...) and went through some papers and embellishments trying to decide my next step.  In the end, I opted to leave the background as the main panel.  The layered sentiment became my focal point and I found that I really, really liked how simple and uncluttered it was.

Speaking of uncluttered, this is definitely not to be said about my home at the moment!  January started out being a pretty good month for cleaning and organizing, but February is not following the pattern!  I am beginning to think that for every bag full of items going out in January, two managed to take its place in February...  Add to this the kids having the day off of school for President's Day and two snow days...  I am thinking that my spring break next month will be spent cleaning instead of playing.  Yuck!

Anything But a Card Challenge 44-Friendship

It is week three of ABAC Challenges Friendship theme and my turn to share.  There has been a wonderfully creative showing from the team this month and I hope you stop by and check them out!  I have to admit that while this theme has so many options, I really struggled with coming up with something.  My brain kept going back to a Valentines style of project, but other than cards, I don't make many things for Valentines Day.  My inspiration hit when I was looking for a stamp set for a birthday card and I saw Blooming With Happiness.  I have used this for wedding and shower projects, and actually forgot about the friendship sentiment that came with this set until I saw it.  I decided to make another page for my art/quote journal using the umbrella and the sentiment.

It was a dreary wintry day when I made this and I think this led to my unusually bright color palette.  I must admit that looking at this page makes me long for the beautiful spring colors that will be making their appearance in about a month!

I used a heart and a dot mask to create the background.  The umbrella and sentiment were stamped on a scrap piece of very vanilla card stock, and I colored the image with melon mambo and daffodil delight markers.  Dazzling details and crystal effects were added to the umbrella.  I pulled out a remnant piece of pink organza, cut small square pieces, stacked them together, and randomly snipped the edges to make my tattered bloom.  A green glittery brad holds the layers together.  There is also a bit of the organza behind the panel with the image and sentiment.  I also added some pretty flowers (a gift from Hippie Aud), and a few leaves created with a MS punch.

Moon River...um...Lake?

My very weak attempt at humorous word play was inspired by a new to me stamp set from Stampin' Up.  The stamp set is called Moon Lake, but every time I see it I think Moon River, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Audrey Hepburn singing.  While 'Moon Lake' isn't as melodic, it is a beautiful stamp set and oh so perfect for masculine cards.  I am in dire need of some manly cards in my stash since there are quite a few birthdays approaching and no cards in sight!

Both of the cards I made are a nice blending of the old with the new.  My newly inked stamps went perfectly with my retired Well Worn dsp and always artichoke ribbon.  I also had to dig into my retired card stock for the river rock base.

I used a combination of markers and pastels to color the images, but I think I really like the pastels better for this stamp set.  My marker skills still need a lot of work, and chalk is pretty forgiving and blends so well!

In a few days, my DD1 will be celebrating a milestone birthday and I am trying to come to terms with the fact that my first baby is no longer a baby...  While we have  fun day planned, I know I will be just a little sad, but mostly proud of the wonderful young woman she has become.  I scoffed at the 'blink of an eye' concept when I was up to my elbows in diapers and sleepless nights, but today I'm feeling a little wiser.  My sleepless nights do occur less frequently, yet now they are for more weighty concerns.  I also find myself mentally apologizing to my own mother for every time that I must have made her worry...  I guess there truly is a circle of life-not just a Disney/Elton John song!

February is for Friends!

Yeah...yeah... I know Valentines is all about sweethearts and love, but what about the other 27 days?!  That is why Anything But a Card Challenges picked 'Friendship' as our challenge theme for this month!  I won't be sharing my creation until the third week, but I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone shares with us!  We would love it if you would join us!

In keeping with the challenge theme (but not the no card rule), I am sharing two cards that I could not have made had it not been for a wonderful example of friendship! A while back I was very pleasantly surprised to find a package in my mailbox.  It was quite a mystery as I had not ordered anything and it wasn't my birthday or anything like that.  I opened the box to find a treasure trove of crafting supplies-everything from ink to stamps to dies!  Seems that  the ever fabulous, Audrey aka Hippie Aud, felt the need to send some happiness out into the world, and I was lucky enough to receive it!  I am feeling more than a little guilty that it has taken me this long to create a proper thank you card using the wonderful supplies!  I am also hoping that it has arrived before my post goes live!!

  

The adorable patchwork bunny and the thank you word bubble were both part of this wonderful happy mail!  I also used some of my new SU paper on this.  The pretty background dsp is from All Abloom (a mini paper pack that is perfect for cards!).

While I was playing with my new goodies, I went ahead and made a birthday card for DD1.  She went crazy over the adorable skunk stamp when I pulled it out of the box!

Audrey's kindness has also inspired me.  While I can't afford to send out boxes of goodies at the moment, I can do a better job of sending a little happiness to others.  So my plan for the month of February is to do a little something everyday to brighten someone else's day.  I also want to be a little more active with my blog and visiting others' blogs as well.  I know I appreciate all of the wonderful comments and ideas people share with me on my blog and I really love seeing what everyone else is making too!

Anything But a Card Challenge 43 -New Beginnings

Hello! It's week three of our New Beginnings challenge at Anything But a Card, and it's my turn to share.  New Beginnings is open to interpretation-using new items, new resolutions, wedding related, etc.  Just be sure to let us know what your 'new beginning' is when you link up!  We would love it if you would share with us!

I went with the more obvious 'resolution', but also slipped in a new to me stamp set as well!  I wanted to make something pretty that I would see every day that would remind me of the changes I want to make in my life.  This also needed to be a one layer project since it is going to be housed in a frame and hung on the wall.

I started with a piece of watercolor paper and wrote my life goals using a gold Sharpie.  Then I stamped the background with various images from Kinda Eclectic.  This is probably one of the easiest (and cleanest) projects I have made in a long time, and I'm really happy with the soft colors-perfect for a gentle reminder!

The design team has once again come up with a wonderful variety of creations and we would love it if you would stop by and check them out.  It would be even more awesome if you joined us and linked up your own creation!

Baby it's cold outside!

Hello!  I am hoping you are warm and cozy wherever you are because it's a balmy 7 degrees here...  Oh, and it's really windy too so it actually feels like 20 below.  Did I mention how much I love winter? On the positive side, this is a very good excuse to play with my crafting supplies and drink a nice warm mug of tea.  I am almost embarrassed to admit that my latest order of Stampin' Up goodies are still untouched, and I also received a wonderful RAK happy mail package from a blogging friend and I haven't used any of that either!  Time to remedy this immediately!

Unfortunately, a family member of our sister-in-law passed away suddenly and since we seem to be going through the sympathy cards lately, I really needed to make a few cards for her and her family.  I am so bad at making this type of card on demand, but I did find a pretty card on pinterest that  I essentially CASED piece by piece.  The only things changed are the colors and the sentiment. 

I really liked the simple design and who would have guessed that burlap ribbon could be 'soft'.  You can see the original, made by Diana Gibbs, here.  

I have a feeling that if the weather stays this way very long, I will be hibernating at my crafting table for the majority of the winter.  With any luck, my new goodies will soon be inky and used soon!

A New Year and a New Outlook

Hello and Happy New Year!  I am so glad you stopped by!  Today, I have two cards to share and I'm pretty sure they will be the last of my 'Christmasy' cards for a little while!  I am also sharing my  new year outlook as well (most of you know my feelings on resolutions-great for a week or two!).

My two cards are one design, but different papers, colors, and ribbons.  I found the design on Pinterest and you can see the original by Amy Frillici, here.  This is such a wonderful design for using up scraps, and is a pretty quick and easy card too!  I made several of these to use as thank you cards for the wonderful gifts I received from co-workers and loved ones.

I had to smile as I created the second version.  The paper is the very retired Ski Slope and there was not an entire sheet of any of the patterns-a small pile of scraps yet I managed to make two cards and still have a tiny bit left.  It reminded me of my blogging friend, Lynn, who once commented about the secret reproducing of scraps.  Perhaps I need to separate my scraps like we do the sheep... hehe!

With the beginning of a new year, everyone tends to reflect on the past year and make improvement plans for the future.  I can honestly say that my reflection process started around October-about the time that the days were rushing past so fast that I was left completely unorganized.  I am by nature a procrastinator,but also do a pretty good job of keeping deadlines in sight.  So this swirling chaos of three months without stopping for a breath really caught me off guard.  I began to take inventory of what had changed, what was working, and what really needed to go.  Unfortunately, blogging was one of the first things that moved to the bottom of  the list.  I came to the conclusion that I had been saying 'yes' to too many things (worthwhile and important things, but way too many), and also allowing too many 'issues' to take over my mind.  

I spent the better part of the days after Christmas focusing on family and giving myself a break. During this time, I tried to re-prioritize  things and also let go of a lot of unneeded baggage.  I am happy to say that my blog made the 'keep' list, however, I know there will be times when it has to sit for a little while-hopefully not too long!  Instead of making resolutions, I found something that I am going to do my best to follow every day...
